Why CFS is NOT McMartin

On September 7, 1983 Ray Buckley, was arrested on suspicion of child molestation.  At the time, Buckley was an employee of Virginia McMartin Preschool.  After the arrest, a letter was sent to some 200 parents encouraging them to interview their children to see if they thought that something inappropriate had occurred.  The trial that followed was extremely costly and brought out some bizarre accusations and stories.  In the end, there were 2 trials costing approximately $15,000,000.

On July 18, 2011 Robert Adams was removed from Creative Frontiers School and the school was closed. The elementary portion of the school was closed due to number building code violations while the preschool portion of CFS was closed due to the DSS investigation of allegations.  Parents were not instructed to ask closed ended questions, rather they were instructed to open ended questions and if further concerned to allow investigators from Citrus Heights Police Department to arrange for interviews at the Sacramento County SAFE center. It was not until after seven weeks of ongoing interviews and investigation that Robert Adams was arrested. Despite what the Adams family has said, there was not one investigation regarding the school.  The investigation DSS initiated regarding allegations of inappropriate touching, the CHPD investigation and the investigation conducted by the City of Citrus Heights Building Department.

While many supporters of CFS have shouted "CFS is exactly like the McMartin Preschool", it simply is NOT exactly like McMartin.  The only similarities between the two cases are the alleged abusers are white males, the alleged crimes took place in an educational setting and both cases happened in the state of California.

Here is an at-a-glance comparison of CFS case against the McMartin Preschool case:

There is now a "CALL TO ACTION" from our friend PSP.  She is instructing all CFS supporters to contact Bill O'Reilly, 20/20, Sean Hannity and Governor Jerry Brown.  We saw the anger that Sheriff John McGuiness incited with his talk show report regarding this case. We have seen the anger, threats of libel suits and disbelief towards every media outlet covering this case.  Why on earth would they invite ultra-conservative editorials on a case that has not been borne out yet?  The answer is obvious, the supporters of Robert Adams are looking for someone to tell their story in the way they feel it should be told.  They want it told with facts that do not exist, opinion that only they maintain and with conjecture that is their's alone.

Unfortunately during a criminal investigation, dirty secrets are exposed.  City of Citrus Heights, CH PD and DSS did not leave unsafe building conditions for students, these three entities did not ignore numerous warnings about appropriate touching nor did any ignore numerous letters of impending shut down if violations were not corrected.  It is easy to want to paint this case with the broad stroke of McMartin however that is simply not the case here.  The case against Creative Frontiers School is vastly different than the McMartin preschool case.  The longer that CFS supporters cry they are the same, the less credibility they will retain.

  1. Soooooo...the only REAL similarity is the Sept. 7 arrest date. I'm sure one of the CFS supporters will claim the arrest was orchestrated on the anniversary date of Ray Buckley's arrest. These pitiful people are grasping at any and everything to try to prove a point, which only makes them appear less educated and more desperate. The big difference here is... CHPD, Sacramento D.A. and DSS have EVIDENCE of wrongdoing. In fact, it is just a coincidence that the arrest fell on the same date. That is where the similarities end. I predict the final outcome will also be vastly different than the McMartin case.

  2. Gosh, I am just failing to see EXACTLY how these two cases are related??!!

Great job of contrasting the two cases, by the way! Now I suppose the supporters will have to go back to the drawing board to look for another way they can cry with outrage, "This case has no merit."

The constant complaints of unfair treatment and conspiracy theories are getting to be a bit absurd. When will this end? And, can you imagine if he's found guilty? The whole justice system will be in on it!!

  3. They also fail to see that SO much has changed in the justice system since the 1980's. The letter to the parents in the McMartin case told parents to interview their children. The CHPD told parents NOT to interview their children but to bring them to the police and allow them to conduct an interview. Just like things like DNA evidence techniques have changed since the 1980's, so has interviewing techniques, especially in regards to children.

  4. No matter what, at the end of the day, if they find Bob Adams GUILTY as charged, he will do time like any common criminal. His supporters can proclaim his innocence, have rallies, write articles, denounce the DA, Law Enforcement, DSS and all the victims and witnesses, as most desperate people do. Mr. Adams will answer to a jury of his peers if he chooses to go through the trial, or will enter into a PLEA AGREEMENT where he will try to get a lighter sentence by admitting some degree of GUILT. Either way, he will be registered as a SEXUAL PREDITOR, for the rest of his life. Maybe then, the nay-sayers, Poets, Activists and Naive will move on. Hopefully, the victims will be able to get on with their lives. They are the ones who deserve to be heard now. Anyone who discounts what they have to say, should also be punished, but sadly, there is no jail sentence for the IGNORANT.
